Knowledge & Understanding Goals
Thinking & Learning Skills
Context
Building from global interconnectedness (Lessons 4-5), students inventory household water use, preparing the specific metrics they traced during the School Water Audit (Lesson 7).
Lesson Outline
REVIEWING HOUSEHOLD WATER USE DATA
Present simplified household water-use statistics by activity (showering, flushing, laundry, dishes, drinking/cooking, outdoor use). Students describe the amount of water used for each purpose on a scale (a lot / some / a little).
COMPARING TO OUR AUDIT FINDINGS
Compare household data to the Lesson 7 school audit findings — are the highest-use areas similar or different?
IDENTIFYING LEVERAGE POINTS
Groups discuss which water use represents the biggest opportunity for change, at home and at school, and record reasoning in their Thought-books.
Notes for Teaching and Evaluation
Explicitly comparing home data against the school audit data reinforces that the same wise-use thinking applies across contexts, rather than being two disconnected topics.
