Taking Action
Concept
After analyzing data and strategies, Shomrei Adamah put their knowledge to work by selecting, executing, and measuring the impact of a high-impact water conservation action.
Focus Question
Which personal water action will make the biggest real-world difference, and how can we measure its impact?
Knowledge & Understanding Goals
Science & Technology, Air and Water / Systems in Action: Execute a targeted personal plan to reduce water consumption based on empirical evidence.
Mathematics, Data Literacy & Change Measurement: Track and log quantitative data over a set tracking period.
Thinking & Learning Skills
Self-Management Skills: Committing to and sustaining a behaviour change.
Thinking Skills (Criteria-Based Selection): Choosing among options using impact, pollution-reduction, and feasibility criteria.
Context
Armed with their baseline school audit data (Lesson 7) and the strategies analyzed in previous lessons, students choose a single, high-leverage action to execute and measure over a week.
Lesson Outline
CHOOSING AN ACTION
Display three guiding questions: which action stops the most water waste? which keeps the most pollutants out of the water? which can we do with the time and resources we have? Students select ONE action from their Thought-book and commit to it for a set period if it's a behaviour change.
TRACKING AND REFLECTING
After the tracking period, students reflect: How much water did we save? How effective was our action in keeping water clean? Were we able to create a lasting change? Can we continue or invite others to join?
Notes for Teaching and Evaluation
Framing the choice around impact, pollution, and feasibility separately reuses the multi-criteria evaluation habit built throughout the unit.
Tailoring reflection questions to the specific chosen action means every student answers the question actually relevant to what they did.
